Survey research shows that approximately 2 million people use guns to deter or shoot criminals every year. Mentally ill people near guns might use them to commit suicide. The argument you used is quite old and has been debunked a long time ago. Do some more homework, please. By the way, Veritas, Millions of people legally own guns yet the suicide rate is miniscule in comparison. Japan which bans guns has a very high suicide rate. Go figure. Moreover, if you want to know the truth about firearms deaths and suicides go to the National Safety Council web site and the National Center For Health Statistics. You’ll learn something. Health care DOES NOT work well in Europe and Canada where they have rationed care. Simple procedures like MRIs requires long waiting lists. Being intelligent is not enough to run a country. You also need good ideas and humility. Both of which Obama lacks. A smart politican would heed the sentiments of the people – most of whom do not like the health care bill. But Obama is more of an ideologue than a politician.

Michael Moore is right in terms of what he is saying. Obama needs to get his actions through, he is the boss, and his ideas WILL work. Health Care like Obama’s works well most places in the world where similar legislation is performed. People need to stop bashing on Obama, he is an intelligent man and will be great for this country if bipartisanship is reached.

Just FYI. You commend Marlene Anielski in this post for resigning from the Mayors Against Illegal Guns organization.

On Thursday, May 4th, Mayor Anielski’s 18 year old son committed suicide using a .45 revolver that was kept at the Anielski residence.

This is a sad example of a proven fact: a gun is far more likely to injure or kill a family member than an intruder: 11 times more likely to be used in a suicide, 7 times more likely to be used in a domestic assault and 4 times more likely to unintentionally injure a child.

Why a “guns rights” politician would be foolish enough to keep an unsecured gun in a residence with four children in it is beyond me. Unfortunately, it’s a story that is too often repeated in this nation of ours.

Guns don’t kill people. Idiots with guns kill people.
