It is quite refreshing to meet a liberal who is pro-gun. Don Kates was at a Second Amendment sponsored annual Gun Rights Policy Conference that I attended in the 1990s and went out of his way to get me a copy of an article that he had authored by going all the way back to his room to retrieve it. He makes it a point to remind anyone who will listen that he marched with Dr. King and other civil rights leaders in the 1960s and that many of them had their own guns for self defense at night when they camped out. They took turns on shifts as the others slept. You couldn’t trust the local southern police officers who were either sympathetic to perpetuating segregation or were secret members of the Ku Klux Klan themselves. In the following article he opines that gun prphibitionists see us a uncivilized because we believe in the right to keep and bear arms.ARE WE BARBARIANS?
