According to newly appointed Attorney General Eric Holder the Obama Administration will seek to ban so-called assault rifles for good. This is just the beginning. We can also thank wimpy gun owners who were more concerned about the economy than about staying free. Our collective refrain to them is: We told you so! As a black man I examined the recent so-called controversial NY Post political cartoon that purportedly depicted Obama as a monkey being shot by the police. A careful reading of the caption reveals, however, that the cartoon was poking fun at the authors of the bill – namely Congress. This I clearly understood. I have an idea for a good cartoon. It should show Jesse Jackson and Sharpton clutching their chests and having a heart attack after hearing that racism has been completely wiped out in the world. Do you think Obama was angered about Eric Holder’s latest outrageous remark about race relations? Of course not. They share the same ideology. Pardon me but America just elected a black man [a courageous move] for the first time and this was after a great deal of debate between family and friends that in some cases even resulted in estrangement. Elections do indeed have consequences. ARE WE REALLY A NATION OF COWARDS?

It is quite refreshing to meet a liberal who is pro-gun. Don Kates was at a Second Amendment sponsored annual Gun Rights Policy Conference that I attended in the 1990s and went out of his way to get me a copy of an article that he had authored by going all the way back to his room to retrieve it. He makes it a point to remind anyone who will listen that he marched with Dr. King and other civil rights leaders in the 1960s and that many of them had their own guns for self defense at night when they camped out. They took turns on shifts as the others slept. You couldn’t trust the local southern police officers who were either sympathetic to perpetuating segregation or were secret members of the Ku Klux Klan themselves. I learned a lesson from a dear [liberal] friend that reason and proof matters not when the gun control issue comes up. After having proven to him during the Clinton years that the 2nd Amendment indeed guaranteed an individual right to keep and bear arms I thought that he recognized the fundamentally flawed premise of advocating gun prohibitionism. Namely, that you can’t prevent gun violence by focusing on law abiding citizens in the retail gun market. But the next time we spoke about gun control he complained that the gun industry was over stocking guns near large urban areas populated by minorities and were apathetic that many guns wound up in the ghettoes. According to him he government needed to oversee the gun industry. From this point on I became aware that the real fanatics are the gun control advocates. Gun control is an obsession. Now ex president Bill Clinton has injected himself into the fray once more to reveal his fanaticism.

Obama and his socialism is beginning to unfold at record speed. Now he wants to cap the salaries of CEOs. Alarmingly Obama was elected because many gun owners voted their bellies instead of for the 2nd Amendment. However, buyer’s remorse is also unfolding at record speed. Recent news reports disclose that a large majority of Americans dislike the Stimulus Bill – aptly called the “Porkulus Bill” by Rush Limbaugh – because they recognize that it’s filled with unnecessary expenditrures that will do nothing to stimulate the economy. Be prepared for the inevitable antigun blitz that was forseen by well informed gun owners.

Bravo to the House Republicans and the 11 Democrats who voted this week against the so-called Stimulus Bill. This is a bad omen for Obama and his disciples. Why? Because if the Republicans continue to fight for conservative values along with some Blue Dog Democrats Osama’s left wing agenda could become derailed. On the horizon is the Freedom of Choice Act that some pro-life groups insist would overturn the right of parents to be notified when their underage female child seeks an abortion. The president has vowed to sign it if enacted by Congress. However, if more Democrats [who are pro-life] would vote against this law than against the Stimulus Bill – along with pro-life Republicans – this outrageous and callous law will go down in defeat. This is why I’m cautiously optimistic that further attempts to pass gun prohibition laws will fail.

Moreover, this same trend could follow through with regards to the gun prohibitionists’ wish list. My reading of the progun Democrats is that they keenly remember that many of their colleagues who voted with President Clinton against us lost their seats. All we have to do is to remind them of this.
